In conversation with Nick Jacobsen, a 29 year-old Admissions Host at Warner Bros. Studio Tour and lives in Northwood, Greater London.

Early Years and Diagnosis
Nick recalls his early experiences with CP as challenging, especially due to moderate physical symptoms. “I underwent physiotherapy five times a week,” he says. “That routine, while tough, was essential in shaping my mobility and independence.” By adolescence, he had become more aware of his condition and began using tennis as a therapeutic outlet. “Tennis was a game-changer for me. It helped me improve physically and gave me confidence in all areas of life.”

From Childhood to Adulthood in Healthcare
The transition from paediatric to adult healthcare was a positive experience for Nick. Moving from private care in Spain to the NHS in the UK, he found greater resources and support. “The outpatient programs and access to support workers really helped me tackle new challenges, like managing my secondary condition, Functional Neurological Disorder,” he explains.

Life After School: Finding His Path
After secondary school, Nick pursued his passion for performing arts, taking courses where teachers provided tailored movement exercises to accommodate his CP. “That support made a huge difference in maintaining control of my symptoms,” he shares. He later qualified as a Level 3 Tennis Coach and began working at David Lloyd Clubs, overcoming doubts about maintaining high physical standards. “There were bumps along the way, but with reasonable adjustments and a great support network, I made it work.”

The Role of Tennis in Managing CP
For Nick, tennis has been a lifelong passion. “Since I was six, tennis has been essential in managing my CP,” he explains. “It’s not just about staying active- it’s about feeling the difference in my body. I’d start a lesson with tight muscles, but by the end, I’d feel It’s a sport that’s given me great muscle tone and a sense of freedom.”

Career trajectory
Today, Nick thrives in his role at Warner Bros. Studio Tour. As an Admissions Host, he’s the first point of contact for visitors, handling everything from inquiries to booking assistance. “I enjoy helping people and being part of such a magical experience for visitors,” he says.

Advice for Young People with CP
Nick encourages young people with CP to focus on what makes them unique. “Be yourself,” he advises. “Demonstrate your skills and let them see what you can do, not what you can’t. I’ve never let CP stop me, and neither should you.”

Looking Ahead
Nick’s story is a testament to resilience and the power of focusing on one’s strengths. Through determination and a love for sport, he continues to inspire others in the CP community to embrace life’s challenges and opportunities.
