Supporting positive Mental Health

Join Joe Bird from @CPTruths, Instagrammer with over 357k followers a disability advocate, spreading positivity on disability and challenging stereotypes.

Born 12 weeks premature, Joseph Bird suffered a brain haemorrhage at four days old resulting in him having Cerebral Palsy. Since then, Joseph has taught himself how to walk unaided, run and jump – all things he feared he would never do – and has transformed his body over the last two years through exercise. The former Paralympian rower now has over 357,000 followers on instagram.

Mental health, or the lack of it, is woefully under-represented in discussions about CP. There is strong evidence that there is a significantly higher prevalence of mental illness for adults with CP. Often mental health is impacted when there are additional issues with function, pain and fatigue.

With the right support, many people recover completely, yet we know that services for adults with CP who are struggling with their mental health are lacking. Join us in November to remove the stigma around mental health and connect with organisations providing valuable resources for our community.
